he Perth Scorchers have won their fifth Big Bash League title in dramatic scenes, defeating the Brisbane Heat by five wickets courtesy of a heroic knock from captain Ashton Turner and some late fireworks from teenager Cooper Connolly.
In front of a record crowd of 53,886 at Optus Stadium on Saturday evening, the defending champions chased the 176-run target with just four balls to spare in an unforgettable contest.
Turner smacked 53 (32) in the middle overs before Connolly, a 19-year-old playing just his fourth BBL match, cracked an unbeaten 25 (11) at the death to guide the hosts to victory.
Connolly arrived at the crease with his team needing 38 runs from 19 balls and embarked on a remarkable blitz. He was dropped by Josh Brown in the penultimate over before fellow youngster Nick Hobson finished things off to equal the highest-ever run chase in a Big Bash decider.
